Worship 9.20.20

As you listen to this beautiful hymn, think about God’s people around the world

and how we are one in Christ, all living under the loving reign of Christ our King.

God is with each one of us. God’s omnipresence means our Lord is

fully present in all places at all times. Think of that!

CALL TO WORSHIP      from Psalm 46

The presence of God is our strength;
Our refuge in times of trouble.
When God is with us, there is joy in our hearts;

Therefore, we rejoice and give thanks!

PRAYER OF ADORATION      from the hymn “O Lord, Our God How Excellent”

O Lord, our God how excellent, how glorious is your name.

Your majesty surrounds the earth, and children sing your fame.

The heavens shout your handiwork; we stand beneath in awe,

To think the One who made all things should care for us at all.

The proof of God’s amazing love is this: while we were sinners Christ died for us.

Because we have faith in him, we dare to approach God with confidence.

In humility and faith, let us confess together:

Holy and merciful God,

in your presence we confess our failure to be what you created us to be.

You alone know how often we have sinned in wandering from your ways,

in wasting your gifts, in forgetting your love.

By your loving mercy, help us to live in your light and abide in your ways,

For the sake of Jesus Christ our Savior.

                         -- Spend a few moments in silent confession –

ASSURANCE OF PARDON        2 Corinthians 5:17

Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation.

The old life has gone; a new life has begun.
know that you are forgiven and be at peace. Amen.

God doesn’t call us to a sad and miserable life, but to a life of joy!

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH, from the Westminster Catechism, Q. 1

What is the chief end of all people?
Our chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

Scripture and  Message        “Feeding, Planting & Building”   1 Corinthians 3:1-9     (click)

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil:

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Generous Lord, thank you for lavishing your grace upon us day by day.

Accept your tithes and our offerings as our longing to see your grace saturate this world.

Use us and these gifts to feed, plant, and build up your kingdom, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

(You may give on-line, mail a check to the church address, or drop it in the church mailbox).

Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him, all creatures here below.

Praise Him above ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Edward Mote owned a cabinet-making business in London. One day on his way to work

he decided to write a hymn that summed up his experience of following Christ:

“On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand”.

Do the words of this hymn describe your life?

HYMN            “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less”                   (click)

                                   Joel, Diane and Sarah Cifani - flute

You’ve given the gift of yourself to God in worship.

How will you apply what you’ve learned?

Are you challenged to grow, serve and build up the church?

Receive these good words:

Remember the Lord’s command: Be strong and courageous.

Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged.

For the Lord your God is with you;

Both now and forever. Amen.
