WELCOME to Palm Sunday Worship!

Without palm branches to wave and without gathered voices to raise in song and prayer, we may feel somewhat disoriented. Yet Christ-followers around the world still worship the Triune God this day knowing worship is not about us. From living rooms, porches and hospital rooms, let’s “spread our garments” of praise, and “raise our palms” giving God all glory, laud and honor.

CALL TO WORSHIP

This is the day of Royal Welcome when Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem and the people shouted: “Hosanna to the Son of David!”

This is the day, Old Testament prophecy was fulfilled: “Look, your King is coming to you, humble and mounted on a donkey.” Blessed is the One who comes in the Name of the Lord!

This is the day a huge crowd of people spread their coats and waved palm branches in joyful welcome, shouting: “Hosanna, Praise God!”

PRAYER OF ADORATION

Sovereign God, we praise you for sending your Son Jesus into the world for our deliverance. Accept our love and loyalty all the way to the Cross. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

CALL TO CONFESSION

As we begin the journey through this Holy Week, let’s put aside our pretending and admit our failures before God. In humility and faith, let’s confess together:

Gracious Lord and King, today we exalt you with palms and hosannas – yet we fail to understand what it means to live under your gracious reign. We call ourselves Christ followers, yet we abandon you. We love a joyful parade but avoid the suffering of the Cross. Have mercy on us and forgive us, O Lord! Lead us to the Cross so that we will see your victory over sin and the coming joy of the Resurrection; in your Name we pray. Amen.

. .  . .  . .  Spend a few moments in silent confession.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

If we confess our sin, God who is faithful and just will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Believe the Good News. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

Thanks be to God. Amen.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH   The Heidelberg Catechism, Q. 1

What is your only comfort, in life and in death?

That I belong – body and soul, in life and in death – not to myself but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, who at the cost of his own blood has fully paid for all my sins and has completely freed me from the dominion of the devil; that he protects me so well that without the will of the Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that everything must fit his purpose for my salvation. Therefore, by his Holy Spirit, he also assures me of eternal life, and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

PASSING THE PEACE

“The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.” Psalm 29:11

With God’s help, will you offer strength and the blessing of peace to others?

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

HYMN OF RESPONSE     “Rejoice, the Lord is King!”

Rejoice, the Lord is King! Your Lord and King adore!

Rejoice, give thanks and sing and triumph evermore.

Lift up your heart! Lift up your voice! Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

The Lord, the Savior, reigns, the God of truth and love.

When he had purged our stains, He took His seat above.

Lift up your heart! Lift up your voice! Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

He sits at God’s right hand till all His foes submit,
And bow to His command, and fall beneath His feet:
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice; Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

GOD’S TITHES & OUR OFFERINGS

We give God’s tithes and offerings as a grateful response to our Lord’s never-failing faithfulness and provision, remembering the Lord loves a cheerful giver!

(Thank you for your continued faithfulness as you give on-line through our website or mail a check to the church address).

DOXOLOGY:

Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

"BENEATH THE CROSS OF JESUS"

Beneath the cross of Jesus, I fain would take my stand –
The shadow of a mighty rock Within a weary land,
A home within the wilderness, A rest upon the way,
From the burning of the noontide heat
And the burden of the day.

Upon that cross of Jesus, Mine eye at times can see
The very dying form of one Who suffered there for me;
And from my smitten heart, with tears, Two wonders I confess:
The wonder of His glorious love,
And my own worthlessness.

I take, O cross, thy shadow For my abiding place;
I ask no other sunshine than The sunshine of His face;
Content to let the world go by, To know no gain nor loss,
My sinful self my only shame,
My glory all the cross.

BENEDICTION

The Lord bless you and keep you.

The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious unto you.

The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you His peace, both now and forevermore.

Amen.
