CALL TO WORSHIP from Psalm 99
The Lord reigns! Let the nations tremble.
The Lord sits enthroned; let the earth shake.
Great is the Lord! He is exalted over all the nations.
Holy God, let everyone praise your great and awesome name.
PRAYER OF ADORATION
God of grace, you have given us minds to know you, hearts to love you,
and voices to sing your praise.
Fill us with your Spirit, that we may celebrate your glory
and worship you in spirit and in truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
CALL TO CONFESSION
Every day we fail to live up to God’s high and holy standard;
yet our Lord promises to forgive those who confess their sin.
In humility and faith, let us confess together:
Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength.
We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us amend what we are,
and direct what we shall be, so that we may delight in your will
and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.
- Spend a few moments in silent confession –
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
The Lord loves you with an everlasting love…
forgiving, cleansing, redeeming and restoring you because you are His beloved child.
Friends believe the Good News! In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God. Amen.
What keeps your faith steadfast? Brothers and sisters in Christ, what do you believe?
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH, Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
The composer of this hymn, Judson VanDeVenter, was an artist & a musician.
His friends encouraged him to enter full-time ministry,
but he struggled for many years about that decision.
Finally, he surrendered himself fully to the Lord – for all his gifts to be used according to God’s will.
