PRELUDE    “Come, You Faithful, Raise the Strain”   (click on image to view)

Diane Combs, organ & Joel Lillethun, piano

The beautiful duet by Diane & Joel is based on the great hymn, “Come, You Faithful, Raise the Strain,”

and the message is a good one for our troubled hearts.

The resurrection of Jesus is reason enough to break out of our tombs of despondency,

to rise up and worship God!

¨Happy Mother’s Day to every mother!

Today we pray for all mothers who have their children at home right now.

We pray for God’s comfort on each mother who grieves the loss of a child.

We gratefully remember and celebrate our own mothers and grandmothers.

¨Happy Birthday: Victor Lee

¨Please be in prayer for Howard Kline, Becky Bender,

Wayne MacDonald, B.J. Morrow, and Janie Oakley’s sister, Evelyn.

CALL TO WORSHIP    based on Psalm 31

Praise the Lord! You show us the wonders of your unfailing love!

For the sake of your Name, you lead us and guide us.

In you, O Lord, we put our trust.

You are our God, and our lives are in your hands.

And so, we will be strong and take courage.

In the shelter of your presence, we worship You.

HYMN   “For the Beauty of the Earth”        (click on image to view)

Creator God, we offer our grateful praise for the beauty of the earth revealing Your glory.

Your sovereign hand is upon each changing season in nature, as well as each changing season of our lives.

We offer our grateful praise, praying in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

God is forever faithful and promises to forgive and forget every sin when we humbly repent.

In humility and faith, let’s confess together:

Merciful God; forgive us for our failure to fully trust you in times of trouble.

Forgive us for seeking comfort in all the wrong places.

Forgive us for failing to know and believe your Eternal plan for this broken world and your broken people.

Forgive us and restore us, O Lord. Stir in us a deep compassion for others, as you have shown to us,

through the power of Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

-        Spend a few moments in silent confession -

The mercy of the Lord is new every morning. Great is God’s faithfulness!

Friends believe the Good News. In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! Thanks be to God. Amen.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH   The Heidelberg Catechism, Q. 1

What is your only comfort, in life and in death?

That I belong – body and soul, in life and in death – not to myself but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ,

who at the cost of his own blood has fully paid for all my sins and has completely freed me

from the dominion of the devil; that he protects me so well that without the will of the Father in heaven

not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that everything must fit his purpose for my salvation.

Therefore, by his Holy Spirit, he also assures me of eternal life,

and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

God will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in the Lord.

The peace of Christ be with you!

“Comfort in Trouble”         John 14:1-14        (click on image to view)

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Freely you have received, freely give – for the Lord loves a cheerful giver!

Generous Lord; bless these gifts.

Stretch and multiply your tithes and our offerings

to accomplish your perfect will. We pray in your Holy Name. Amen.

Not surprisingly, giving has gone down a bit, but we are trusting our providing Lord to sustain His Church. Thank you for your faithful giving. The ministries we support need your help more than ever. (You may give on-line, mail a check to the church address, or drop it in the church mailbox).

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host.

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.
