GATHERING MUSIC

God’s Spirit helps us look to God alone as the One who satisfies our deepest desires.

Click on the video and sing along with Joel: “As the Deer”

Gathering Music - Sing with Joel Lillethun

"AS THE DEER"

As the deer pants for the water, so my soul longs after you.

You alone are my heart's desire, and I long to worship you.

You alone are my strength, my shield; to you alone may my spirit yield.

You alone are my heart's desire, and I long to worship you.

You alone are my strength, my shield; to you alone may my spirit yield.

You alone are my heart's desire, and I long to worship you.

CALL TO WORSHIP                                 from Psalm 136

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.

Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever.

To him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever.

Who by his understanding made the heavens, His love endures forever.

To him who led his people through the wilderness; His love endures forever.

Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.

HYMN   Read or sing: “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less”

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand;

All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness seems to hide his face, I rest on his unchanging grace;

In every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand;

All other ground is sinking sand.

His oath, his covenant, his blood support me in the whelming flood;

When all around my soul gives way, he then is all my hope and stay.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand;

All other ground is sinking sand.

When he shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in him be found,

Dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand;

All other ground is sinking sand.

PRAYER OF ADORATION

O Lord, thank you for life and breath and for the beauty of springtime that sings of your good and glorious Creation. Although we are physically separated this day, we praise you for uniting us together spiritually as the family of faith. We lift you up, praising and adoring you with grateful hearts. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

CALL TO CONFESSION

King David’s words are our words, too:
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts.

Point out anything in me that offends you and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Merciful God, we come before you with humble hearts speaking the truth about our spiritual condition. We are infected with the virus of sin. Our symptoms of self-centeredness, unbelief and fear confirm our diagnosis. Apart from you we are merely dead, dry and brittle bones. Forgive us, O Lord. Heal us, cleanse us, and breathe new life into us by the power of your Holy Spirit. Amen.

Spend a few moments in prayer, asking the Lord to search your heart and point out anything that offends God’s Holiness.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

God knows everything about us. He knows our deepest secrets and our every motive.

Yet, through the saving grace of our Lord Jesus, we are completely forgiven!

Friends believe the Good News! Thanks be to God. Amen.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH      from The Scots Confession, Chapter I

We confess and acknowledge one God alone, to whom alone we must cleave, whom alone we must serve, whom only we must worship, and in whom alone we put our trust. Who is eternal, infinite, immeasurable, incomprehensible, omnipotent, invisible; one in substance and yet distinct in three person, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

By whom we confess and believe all things in heaven and earth, visible and invisible, to have been created, to be retained in their being, and to be ruled and guided by his inscrutable providence for such end as his eternal wisdom, goodness, and justice have appointed, and to the manifestation of his own glory.

PASSING THE PEACE

How we miss seeing and greeting one another in our beautiful sanctuary each Sunday morning.

In “such a time as this” let’s claim the gift of God’s peace, a peace that is beyond our understanding.

Jesus says; “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.

Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

PRAY!

Pray for the world as you’ve never prayed before.

Pray as an active response to our global pandemic.

Pray in confidence as our Lord promises to hear our prayers.

Pray for each person sick and infected.

Pray for all people to practice an abundance of caution.

Pray the Great Physician will heal and sustain us both body and soul.

Pray for the vulnerable; the elderly, those who already suffer chronic diseases, for the poor, homeless, and for those who struggle with mental health.

Pray for wisdom for our local, state and federal governments, and for the leaders of every nation.

Pray for moderation from the media and for moderation for us as consumers.

Pray for our scientists to discover vaccines and cures.
Thank God for our health professionals and pray for their protection and health.

Pray for the safety and health of our missionaries and military throughout the world.

Pray for every financially devastated worker and business.

Pray for families and students, navigating this time of staying home.

Pray for every Christ follower, that we may use our time wisely during this unprecedented time to grow in faith and to demonstrate our trust in God alone.

We pray as our Lord taught his disciples to pray, saying:
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

GOD’S TITHES & OUR OFFERINGS

Giving our tithes and offerings is an act of worship.

Giving demonstrates our trust in God, even when the future is unknown.

We offer these gifts cheerfully as a grateful response to our Lord’s never-failing faithfulness and provision.

(Thank you for your continued faithfulness as you give on-line through our website or mail a check to the church address).

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host.

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

BENEDICTION

May the peace of God, which passes all understanding;

Keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God,

And of God’s Son, Jesus Christ our Lord;

And the blessing of God Almighty,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Remain with you always.

Amen.
