Worship 7.12.20

PRELUDE      “Brother James’ Air”     Joseph Martin    Diane Combs, piano       (click)

We gather together with Christ-followers around the world to worship the Triune God.

From living rooms, hospital rooms, jungles and caves, we set aside this day to put God first.

The saints who lived before us and the angels in heaven join us. Let us worship God!

¨Happy Birthday: Susan Taylor and Beth Johnson!

¨Please pray for: Ian Hutchison, Howard Kline, Becky Bender, Alex Robb and for one another.

CALL TO WORSHIP               based on Psalm 31

Praise the Lord! You show us the wonders of your unfailing love!

For the sake of your Name, you lead us and guide us.

In you, O Lord, we put our trust.

You are our God, and our lives are in your hands.

And so, we will be strong and take courage.

In the shelter of your presence, we worship you.

Almighty God, renew our desire to worship you with all our heart, soul and strength.

Keep us in a posture of praise and adoration, for you alone are worthy!

In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.

In God’s great mercy, we are promised complete forgiveness when we humbly repent.

In humility and faith, let’s confess together:

Merciful God, when it comes to trials and temptations, you know our struggles.

We choose the easy way. We give in to selfish desires. We blame others.

We shrink from doing your will. O Lord, forgive us and give us strength,

through the power of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

                    - Spend a few moments in silent confession –

When we confess our sins God clears the slate,

reminds us of our belonging, and gives us a fresh start.

Yell and cheer! Celebrate! Our sins are forgiven!

Thanks be to God. Amen.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH, The Heidelberg Catechism, Q.127

What is the sixth petition?

“And do not bring us to the time of trial but rescue us from the evil one.”
Meaning: By ourselves, we are too weak to hold our own even for a moment.

And our sworn enemies – the devil, the world, and our own flesh – never stop attacking us.

And so, Lord, uphold us and make us strong with the strength of your Holy Spirit,

So that we may not go down to defeat in this spiritual struggle,

But may firmly resist our enemies until we finally win the complete victory.

“The Lord gives strength to his people;

the Lord blesses his people with peace.” Psalm 29:11

With God’s help, will you offer strength and the blessing of peace to others?

The peace of Christ be with you!

SCRIPTURE & MESSAGE    “Lead us Not…”     Matthew 4:1-11           (click)

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil:

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        GOD's  TITHES & OUR OFFERINGS

Thank you for your faithful giving, especially in these days of not meeting together.

Generous Lord, we dedicate these gifts, your tithes and our offerings,

as an investment in your Eternal Kingdom.

Bless the gift and the giver. We pray in your Holy Name. Amen.

(You may give on-line, mail a check to the church address, or drop it in the church mailbox).

Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him, all creatures here below.

Praise Him above ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

BENEDICTION   Ephesians 3:20-21

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think,

according to the power at work within us,

to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations,

forever and ever. Amen.
